Coach Rex grew up in Greensboro, NC. Raised in the inner city projects, his environment had an negative impact on his life. When Rex was in the 2nd grade he was hit by a car and was hospitalized for several weeks with a broken femur and a cut to the head. He was alone most of the time while in the hospital. While Rex was in the hospital a friend of his was accidentally shot and killed. Rex was devastated, and after several traumatic experiences, he became a very bitter, and angry young boy, running the streets of Greensboro all hours of the night.
But one day at the age of 12, he gave his life to Jesus, and this was the major turning point in Rex’s life. He realized that Jesus loved him despite all the wrong he did. Everyone who knew Rex as that angry young boy says he should have been in prison or dead. But Jesus had other plans. Rex identified his Destiny and Purpose in life and is spending the rest of his life showing other youth how to find their destiny.
While in high school Rex received a scholarship in football to Western Carolina University, and played his first game against Boston College during the time when Doug Flutie was the quarterback. Rex was the leading rusher in his first career college game. Rex finished his career at Lenoir Rhyne College where he obtained a BA degree in Sports Management and has a masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix. Rex became an ordained minister in 1991, and has been preaching the gospel ever since.
